Hope for Rochdale work to commence

Published: Wednesday, 11 August 2021

THERE is hope that the closure on the Rochdale will soon be attended to.

It was way back on the 9th July when Callis Lock (13) at Todmorden suffered a 'structure failure', closing the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Tail gates dropped

Both tail gates had dropped causing the closure, with the lock floor expected to be damaged, so a crane was required to get the gates out and the problem attended to with the tug and crane boat now available on site.

Stop planks are being inserted and the lock drained so a full inspection can be carried out. The trust's Mobilisation Officer attended the site yesterday to plan for the crane access required at the lock so the gates can be removed and inspection carried out.

It is stated that it is unsure as to the extent of the works required so no intimation can be given as to their completion, and in the meantime the navigation remains closed.
