Flood closes Severn locks

Published: Monday, 05 October 2020

A VERY strange decision by Canal & River Trust yesterday in closing the locks on the Severn but not the river!

Its stoppage notice tells that after the heavy downpour the locks on the Severn are all closed to navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not the actual river

But is only the locks not the actual river—this is still open!

It advises users of all boats not to navigate because the strong flows make it difficult and dangerous.  But why not close it completely if so dangerous?

Where is the much vaunted health and safety in this decision?
