Is the Rochdale breaching?

THERE has been an hasty dewatering of a pound on the Rochdale Canal.

The water was being lost from the pound between locks 59 and 60 at Stanycliffe near Chadderton, and it was discovered that water was pouring from the base of the embankment, Keith Gudgin reports.

The pound is now in the process of being completely dewatered in an attempt to discover the cause of the  leakage.

it is hoped that the engineers will be able to seal any hole that is discovered, and that it is not the start of a breach, but in the meantime the waterway is closed.
