Good heavens, less drama please. While I can certainly appreciate that some people may not like the Harecastle tunnel and might choose to 'move away from it', I find it unfair to so harshly criticise the health and safety response that, effectively, Harecastle Tunnel is adequately equipped for emergencies.

There is one point that, so far, no one has mentioned. Keep your ruddy eyes open and from time to time look at the roof line. The low sections are clearly marked white and can easily be seen.

HAVING travelled through Harecastle Tunnel on the Trent & Mersey Canal exactly 19 times, I am well aware of its dangers and so can but agree that some simple safety precautions would be well advised.
