OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS various problems have closed canals.

As Keith Gudgin reports.

Kennet & Avon Canal

Greenham Lock 86 on the Kennet & Avon Canal has had to be closed to navigation.

This was after an incident that warranted the gates being secured, with a plan for repair to be made as soon as possible. There is no indications of what the incident was.

Limehouse Cut

Limehouse Cut is closed due to third party works that are required.

This was following a report that electric cables have come loose from Bridge 6 on the waterway and are hanging across the navigation.

As these cables are unsafe a closure has been made at this bridge to ensure the safety of boaters. The bridge belongs to a third party that will secure the cables.

Gloucester & Sharpness Canal

Llanthony Lift Bridge 24 on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal is unable to be used at present, due to an an electrical fault.

National Grid will be attending as an emergency call-out but until its people repair the fault the bridge will remain closed for safety reasons.

Stort

The river is closed at Parndon Mill Lock 11, as the bottom metal gates have been struck and the seal has partially detached.

The Lock will be closed until repairs have been completed.
