DUE TO ONGOING PRESSURE on water resources, the Caldon Canal will be closed to navigation from Saturday 1st August 2026 until further notice, Canal & River Trust reports.
The restrictions that were introduced on the 17th July allowed essential navigation movements through Hazelhurst Locks (10, 11, pictured and 12) and Cheddleton Locks (13 and 14) while helping to conserve water
Not recovered sufficiently
But the trust states that despite these measures, water resources have not recovered sufficiently.
So the trust has no option but to close the navigation, as it states.
