A NEW development scheme will see the demise of a number of Grade II listed buildings in a conservation area by the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
Named Tower Works the huge development will include a number of Grade II listed buildings in Leeds, including the Engine House, that will be incorporated in the scheme, Roger Fox tells us.
Mostly housing
The scheme that has been costed at £80 millions will transform the former Homes and Communities Agency site into mostly housing and bars with a good amount of office space. The houses will be a mix of one to four bedroom 'town houses'.
Developed by Carillion, a spokesmen for the company told that it had worked closely with Leeds City Council and will include a piazza in the front of the Engine House and courtyard spaces dotted about the development. (Picture ForbesMassie.)
Other listed buildings
Other that the Engine House, that the developers have promised to restore, there are no details of the other listed building that are to be either re-developed or removed, only the information that ‘the team worked closely with the council to ensure that the design response not only builds on the heritage and character of the area'.
Permission has now been received for the work to start and is expected to be completed in 2020.
