OF THE many complaints we received about the Canal & River Trust licensing team, the most prominent is its laxity in issuing the licences, with many boaters wondering if payment had been received or not.

Boater Roger Hunt is another in this situation, but here he tells it himself:

Having got into arrears last year I have now paid in full for my licence, this was done a week ago. My licence went out 12/15 so I was concerned about the £150 late payment that they may levy.

Still no further on

Now despite three phone calls at my expense, money I can ill afford to lose as I'm signed off with depression, and promises of a call-back, I'm still no further on. I've received no call-backs and I'm starting to think they are doing it on purpose to levy said charge. At first they told me I'd have to pay the whole year up front as I'd been in arrears and I'd broken a previous payment agreement last year; an agreement I might add  that I had no knowledge of and I certainly didn't sign anything.

They keep telling me because I've had arrears last year they'd be working out a plan for payment, but still nothing.  To me that debt is paid and now not relevant and of course related to last year but there making a really big thing of it.

What can I do now? Getting stressed and worried.

[We too are at the mercy if this disorganised organisation, for it issued us with just an 11 months licence way back in August, though stating 12 months 'paid in full', but we still have no correct licence notwithstanding emails and telephone calls...  Editor.]
