Forth & Clyde link

A TUNNEL under the M9 Motorway at Grangemouth is the latest stage in the restoration of the Forth & Clyde Canal to its original terminus a short length beyond.

It is hoped this will become a visitor attraction of the future, and will be the final part of the  Millennium Link, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Helix project

This is part of the £43 million Helix project, which is a partnership between Falkirk Council, Scottish Canals, Central Scotland Forest Trust and the Big Lottery Fund,  consisting of a lagoon, wetland, forest, event space, over 25 miles of pathway as well as a host of public artworks, including the Kelpies—two colossal steel horse heads.

A main part of the canal extension is the creation of a new sea lock on the  Carron together with a lift bridge, to allow larger boats to enter the Lowlands waterways for the first time.
