No say on CaRT

Published: Sunday, 30 December 2012

I ALWAYS considered the work of the Inland Waterways Association as being important, and although I was not a member, I did seriously consider joining once we bought our boat in 2010, writes Peter Ponting.

In reply to Brian Andrews' comments 'IWA not part of CaRT', I must admit I am now glad I did not join.

Voted

I have been on numerous committees in my time, so when the newly formed CaRT held an election for four independent boaters to be elected to the new committee as trustees, I as many others, read all the nominations and duly voted.

I did notice the number of applicants from the IWA. So, hoping that this was not a ploy by the association to take all the vacancies on the committee of independent boaters, I voted for none of them.

All elected

Sadly they were all elected. This means that the independent boater has no say on the committee of CaRT, and to make matters worse CaRT and the IWA have now signed a working agreement.

I find it despicable that an organisation like the IWA, should hijack the rights of independent boaters to have their voice on the committee, for them to fill their own gains. They should all resign to restore a tainted dignity.
