Python in Grand Union

THE body of a giant python has been discovered in the Grand Union Canal in Leicester by a towpath walker.

Jeff Wharton saw the giant snake floating in the water, but later found that it had been pulled out and was on the towpath near Aylestone Meadows in the city, Alan Tilbury reveals.

It was stated to be a Burmese python by a snake expert at Twycross Zoo, who examined the photographs that had been taken, adding that she thought it had been dead about a week.

It seems people purchase them as pets, not realising the enormous size they reach—up to 14ft—with the one found being 10ft long.

RSPCA officer, Nicola Walker, tells that the association is dealing with more and more incidents regarding the abandonment of exotic animals, and try to encourage people to think very carefully before getting an exotic animal as a pet.
