Paddington Arm thieves problems

Published: Monday, 31 January 2011

THE police have had to be brought in to protect narrowboats on the Paddington Arm that have been  targeted by thieves.

There have been so many break-ins, that British Waterways has  been working with the local police team to help boaters make their boats more safe and secure.

Given alarms

Boaters who reported break-ins were given alarms directly by the police, with BW and the police warning boaters in the area of the recent crimes, though all incidents and crimes should be reported to the police directly.

British Waterways has a small supply of free boat alarms from the police to supply to boaters in the area who are most vulnerable. Boaters staying in the West London, Kensal Green area are also encouraged to call into BW boat Jena in Paddington as British Waterways has been supplied with a property marker pen.

Should boaters like their valuables marked, then the customer services team on Jena are pleased to be able to help. The police however require BW to take names and contact details of anyone who receives an alarm or has their property marked.

Jena is open Monday to Friday, 09.30am - 4.30pm.
