Serious vehicle strike closes Trent & Mersey between Swarkestone and Stenson

A SERIOUS vehicle strike at Barrow Bridge (16) has closed the Trent & Mersey Canal.

This strike has needed immediate attention both from the police and highways agency and could close the navigation for a while, Keith Gudgin reports.

It has seriously damaged Barrow Bridge (16) with the road and navigation being closed as a huge section is now precarious.

The Trent & Mersey Canal, between Deepdale Bridge (17) and Lowes Bridge (15), has been closed with immediate effect following the strike.

Canal & River Trust tell it is currently on site assessing the extent of the damage and planning the required repairs.

The damage is such that the towpath is also closed.
