Camp Hill Flight closed and Greenberfield in the future

LOCK 5 on the Camp Hill Flight of the Grand Union in Birmingham is currently needing repair..

This is the result of a paddle failure, Keith Gudgin reports.

This broke on Saturday and the contractors are expected today, Monday.

It is not understood why this top lock cannot be operated with the remaining paddle, but perhaps, as in many cases, there is only the one paddle working that has now failed.

Canal & River Trust do tell that the failure means the lock is impassable and a team should be out today.

Leeds & Liverpool

There is another future closure, this time on the Leeds & Liverpool, with a problem with the Greenberfield Flight .

After an inspection of Lock 42 an 'issue' was identified with the cill which requires an emergency repair, along with repairs to the gate seal.

The Reactive Team are currently in the process of organising the necessary materials to undertake the repairs the lock that will remain open, but to be used with care.

Padlocks will be placed on the bottom and top locks to prevent access on to the Greenberfield flight from 8am on Monday 4th March, when work will commence.
