Have to check if repair successful
THE CILLS on Lock 27 on the Rochdale Canal have now been re-capped.
But it is a matter of seeing if the water rises in the pound to check whether the repair is successful, Keith Gudgin reports.
It was on Monday that it was discovered that the paddles were blocked, and the lock closed to navigation.
Issue with lock gate
But upon clearing these it was discovered on Tuesday there was an issue with the lock gate which needed further works. Therefore the pound had to be drained with the team returning to investigate.
Then on the Wednesday it was discovered there was another problem. This time with the cill on the offside, that needed re-capping, and that was undertaken.
So now it is a matter of discovering when the water rises if it gives enough pressure on the gates to seal properly.
