Double whammy for the 'Narrow'

IT WAS indeed a double whammy for the Huddersfield Narrow Canal yesterday, Thursday.

Canal & River Trust tell that paddles have been left open again and the pump feeding the navigation has been switched off, draining the stretch of waterway from Lock 1E to Lock 12E, a distance of three miles.

The combined result of these incidents is that the water levels between the two locks are too low for navigation, so it is closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not told how access was gained

He asking how do unauthorised people gain access to the pump? As It is not told how anyone managed to gain entry into its locked enclosure to be able to turn it off.

The pump has been turned back on with the water levels recovering, and is expected to reopen later today.
