IT WAS way back at the end of June that boaters were warned about the state of Kegworth Deep Lock.

kegworth sunkCanal & River trust telling that the towpath side bottom gate was currently out of action and warning that they could still operate the lock, but needed to be patient and proceed with care and to use all paddles to fill the lock.

Good news

The good news from CaRT being 'our local team will be on site next week, to carry out the required repairs'.

Alas the good news turned into bad news, as there were no repairs whatsoever, with the lock still being difficult to operate.

The information now is that the bottom gate repairs will begin on the 8th of September and will take a week with the repairs being finished on Friday the 15th of September, Keith Gudgin reports

Lock closed

During this time the lock will be closed for navigation.

So it's another long job—11 weeks this time—and perhaps the result of the lack of cash.

The picture shows another narrowboat that caught on the cill and sank. It being rescued by River and Canal Rescue. The reason why it's original name of Kegworth Deep Lock was renamed Kegworth New Lock—the original name was frightening those of a nervous disposition. And perhaps for good reason.
