IN ADDITION TO THE LEAK between Bridge 9 and Bridge 10 on the Llangollen another leak has been discovered on the waterway.
This one is between Bridge 68 and 69 at Swanley, Keith Gudgin reports.
Carrying out work
Engineers are carrying out work to investigate and address the leak that is between the canal and an adjacent culvert.
We are told that to facilitate the works, a horseshoe cofferdam will be installed within the canal that restricts navigation, so it is not safe for boats to pass.
But to minimise disruption, the following assisted passage arrangements will be in place:
Navigation will be closed from 8.00am on 17th August then there will be an assisted passage available between 4.00pm and 5.00pm on this day.
Other assisted passages
After this there could be other assisted passages daily between 8.00am and 9.00am, and also between 4.00pm and 5.00pm.
During these assisted passages, boats will be pulled past the coffer dam by the contractor using ropes, with engines switched off.
Temporary repairs have been attempted, but are not holding sufficiently, and a more robust repair is now required.
