Eleven weeks to repair walkway and open navigation

Published: Friday, 04 August 2023

IT WAS way back on May 17th that the Hunt's Small Lock on the Weaver was closed due to a damaged walkway.

And yesterday, Thursday, it was finally repaired and the navigation reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

Making the repair an eleven weeks job, with various reasons/excuses given for the delay.

HuntsSmallLockMethod of repair

These included the usual 'organising a method of repair' on the 26th May, but not until the 9th of June did a local team go to the site and investigate the walkway.

But on the 14th June the team was still continuing to look for a method of repair. Then on the 28th the local team created temporary access points 'until a permanent method of repair is established.'

We were told it was anticipated the actual work would start week commencing Monday 31st July—after nine weeks.

Strange

Then strangely we are then advised that 'the local team and contractors now have scheduled dates to conduct the necessary repair to the footbridge at Hunts Small Lock on the Weaver Navigation on the 19th July'—a week and half before!

Eventually however this footbridge was repaired, it being opened yesterday, Thursday, with the contractors still there clearing up, obviously getting the full week in.
