THE BBC has received planing permission for the development of Digbeth’s historic Typhoo Tea Building into its new home in Birmingham.

At a cost of £200 millions this canalside development will utilise the majority of its existing facades, structure and substructure, avoiding substantial carbon emissions, Roger Fox reports.

The wider scheme for the 10 acres of underutilised land around Typhoo Wharf will see the adjoining canal basin transformed into a mixed-use neighbourhood and open thoroughfares together with an open square.

Roger relates that the proposals which narrowboatworld reported some time ago have now been given planning permission so boaters can look forward to a better outlook in Digbeth.
