Birmingham & Fazeley Canal closed for at least a month

STARTING this Wednesday there will be a closure of the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal & Digbeth Branch.

This is caused by the partially collapsed by-wash channel at lock 13 on Farmer's Flight, Keith Gudgin reports.

A hole has appeared next to the lock side so the trust maintains that urgent investigations and stabilisation of the area are required to get the lock back working.

Closed on Wednesday

The navigation will be closed this Wednesday 8th March to control water levels and prevent further damage.

However, though stated as urgent, contractors will not be on site until Monday 13th March, and the work is expected to take three to four weeks, meaning that the navigation will be closed for four to five weeks.
