Man found dead on canal towpath

A MAN has died on the Shropshire Union Canal towpath in Chester.

Emergency services were called to a man lying on the towpath near Phoenix Tower, Keith Gudgin reports.

Attempted resuscitation

Though paramedics attempted resuscitation they were unsuccessful, and the man, reported to be 74 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not known how he came to be there, with the possibility he may have fallen from the city walls.

It has been revealed that he was local, with the death not believed to be suspicious, with a case file being prepared for the coroner.
