THE Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal is closed at Pillings above Loughborough.

It states that vandals have removed one of the lock gate boards on Pillings Lock (Pilling Flood Lock), Keith Gudgin reports.

Protects the canal

This is the lock that protects the canal above Loughborough from the Soar, but it is not understood how vandals could remove such a heavy length of timber that is so well bolted into the broad lock.

The trust states it is now making arrangements for an emergency repair.
