Area of Chesterfield Canal has suspected Avian Flu

BOATERS are being warned to keep their dogs away from an area of the Chesterfield Canal as there have been many bird deaths.

It is around Gringley Lock (51) and Whit Sunday Pie Lock (60) between Gringley and Misterton that the dead birds have been found over the past 24 hours, Keith Gudgin reports.

Do not touch

Boaters are asked not to touch any dead birds and to keep their dogs away from them, but to report them to the RSPCA using the ///What3Words system to identify the location, so they can be removed.

Though not yet made official, it is suspected that Avian Flue is responsible for their deaths.
