Ashton Canal closed

IT WOULD seem that slowly but surely Canal & River Trust is failing in keeping its waterways open.

Another closed today is the Ashton Canal with notice that its locks, from 1 to 18 are now unavigable and so the canal closed.

Continuing dry weather

Once again we are told that the continuing dry weather and knock-on impacts from planned reservoir works, is not allowing enough water coming to the canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

So the decision has been made to close the canal with immediate effect with it to be closed all week-end at the least and a review of the situation next week.

The question now of course—which one next?  As the policy of so little maintenance is certainly having its effect with so much water wasted through leakage.
