Check before you cruise

WITH low water levels throughout the system it is now advisable to check before attempting to cruise.

Particularly before attempting any of the northern waterways, with all having restructions of one sort or another.

More restrictions

Today comes notice of more restrictions for the Leeds & Liverpool with Wigan Flight still suffering together with the Leigh Branch, Keith Gudgin reports.

LeakingLLThere is of course the continuing closure of the Peak Forest and Macclesfield canals that will remain closed until water levels have recovered enough for safe navigation.

Shortly to be closed

Then the warning that both the Huddersfield Narrow and the Caldon canals are shortly to be closed, Canal & River Trust warned.

Daily comes notice of more restrictions, with very few escaping due of course to the lack of rain coupled, as boaters are so aware, with so many leaking lock-gates wasting water.

Now it's the Lee Navigation

Today, Thursday comes notice that the Lee Navigation is 'Navigation: Closed', due to low water at Tottenham Lock (17).

But though stating it is closed the trust's notice states 'Tottenham Lock will be operational between 11:00 and 13:00 daily'.
