A CYCLIST on the Coventry Canal towpath landed in hospital after swerving to miss a fallen tree.

This happened on Wednesday night around 11pm near Priestley's Bridge (4)  in the city with a person seen struggling with his cycle in the waterway and the emergency services being called, Roger Fox reports.

Blocking his way

It transpired that the man was cycling along the towpath but was forced to veer away from a tree that had fallen blocking his way, he obviously being unable to prevent himself from falling into the waterway with his cycle.

The emergency services attended with the man pulled out of the canal and given medical attention and then taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.

The Water Rescue Unit were also called but were subsequently stood down when they were en route, being informed the man had been rescued.
