Restorations suffered the same fate

WE SAW the waterways as a 'hidden treasure', writes Jennifer MacGillivray.

We went out, we dug them out, we cleaned them up. We looked in awe at what we had achieved.

Left them to tarnish

Bursting with pride we handed them to British Waterways.  Thank you very much they said. They put them in a cupboard and left them to tarnish.

We have just travelled the restored section of the Montgomery.

Worked so hard

Jennifer added:

The 'we' are the volunteers who worked so hard, either physically or raising money or all the other behind the scenes jobs. The Monty was just the canal we happened to be on last week, but all those restorations seem to have suffered the same fate.
