IT WAS IN MAY LAST YEAR that Baits Bite Lock on the Cam was closed.
Reopen by Christmas
It is now expected to reopen by Christmas, Janet Friend reports.
It was the poor state of the lock that caused its closure last year, with the navigation subsequently stopped.
The work required is nearing completion and it is expected that it will be completed in time to open for Christmas.
It is expected that the lock will fully reopen in the week commencing 19th December weather of course permitting.
Lock island now stable
A spokesperson for the Conservators told that the works at Baits Bite Lock are progressing well, with the lock island now stable.
It was a recent inspection that showed that the chains on the guillotine lock gate were in a poor state of repair due to the long inactivity and age. But these chains are scheduled to be replaced during the week commencing 8th December.
