But it seems this driver took matters a little too far if he was hoping to quickly get to the other side of the canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Driver inside

The van had its driver inside when it came down the bank into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Nelson.

With the rather embarrassed driver phoning the emergency services resulting in the police, a fire engine and an ambulance arriving, he being helped out by the fire people and checked by paramedics then reporting back to base of the situation of his van.

Delivered

Then another van arrived, without a dipping into the waterway, with a company spokesman stating that the vehicle and parcels were quickly recovered and all parcels were undamaged and delivered the same day.
