THE Kennet & Avon Canal has re-opened and the boats cleared.
The work on Southcote Lock (104), where a boat took off a gate from its mounting has been completed and the navigation re-opened, Keith Gudgin reports.
Volunteer lock keepers
To help with the many boats held-up by the forced stoppage, volunteer lock keepers are assisting them through the lock.
The damage to Southcote Lock proved extensive, needing the lock to be drained so that it could be examined and then work commence.
It was a boat that had its bow stuck in the gate, it breaking the gate from its mounting as it lifted with the rising water, causing the gate to break away.
