One Rochdale stoppage cleared

THE sunken boat in the lock on the 'Rochdale Nine' has been removed and the flight clear.

However the two gates on Callis Lock at Todmorden that collapsed in late July have still not been been reinstalled, though it was discovered it was the gates themselves that had broken and not the more important lock floor that could have resulted in a long stoppage, so the navigation here is still closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Full investigation

The plan is being put in place to lift the gates out next week when a full investigation will be carried out as to the state of the pot and pins arrangements on the gates.

Canal & River Trust state that the necessary repairs required can then be considered, so are unable to give a date when the navigation will be re-opened.
