It was at Soot Hill at Anderton that the canal bank collapsed at Bridge 200 on Thursday 21st January 2021 after a storm, bringing down soil and vegetation together with a gas main.

The contractors managed to create a narrow channel to acts as a feeder through the site but surveys were needed  to assess the current risk to prevent further damage and it was deemed too dangerous for boats.

Work still required

Whilst there is still an amount of work required to install protection to the landslip to prevent further erosion and a further closure, depending on the progress of the erosion protection works it is aimed  to re-open the navigation early in the week commencing Monday 19 April.
