THE three millions pound repair to the Figure of Three locks that was to be reopened today, Monday, has failed!

Just as the locks were due to be open for navigation after 12 months to repair, it was discovered a paddle has broken and so there is no access, Keith Gudgin reports.

The unworkable paddle is on the top lock and it is believed to be an obstruction that is the problem with divers required to attend these locks on the Calder & Hebble Navigation.

This is a great disappointment to the Trust that hoped to celebrate the reopening of these locks today, but it was not to be.

Badly damaged

The locks were badly damaged by flood water overtopping from the Calder during the storms and floods in February last year and has been closed to navigation and towpath users for the past 12 months.
