Caldon stoppage needs extending

THOUGH the canal bed repair has been completed on the Caldon Canal the stoppage needs to be extended.

This is in order to test and monitor the situation and confirm the safety of the canal ahead of reopening, which is now planned for 6pm on Wednesday 7th April, Keith Gudgin reports.

Problems with the canal bed

Originally there were problems with the canal bed that caused concern, but resulted in additional areas of the bed having to be repaired that caused delay.

It is expected that the monitoring of the situation will show the bed is now stable and the navigation reopened as stated.
