Shroppie at Audlem now reopened

THE repairs to the breach at Bridge 80 on the Shropshire Union Canal have now been completed.
This means the waterway at Audlem was able to be reopened yesterday afternoon at 4pm, Keith Gudgin reports.
Hole appeared
It was back on the 15th January that a hole appeared by the culvert by Bennett's Bridge—as can be seen in the picture—and the navigation was closed.
It has taken many weeks of hard work to repair the culvert and reinstate the bed of the canal, with decent weather over the period helping progress, so now the navigation is open for when the coronavirus rules allow general boating.
The towpath diversion however is still in place and will remain so until after Easter.
