Waiving of licence fees

I NOTE in your piece about current movement and access restrictions you suggest a waiving of licence fees, writes Alan N Estherby.

Whilst I understand your point, I think it is worth pointing out that even with severely restricted use the waterways still need to be maintained.

Quick to complain

We boaters are quick to complain about problems when they occur, fixing those problems and trying to prevent them in the first place costs money, even when boats are not moving so much. Indeed, it could be argued that just now, when most of us cannot get out and about, is exactly when maintenance backlogs should be tackled.

I certainly did appreciate the extra month 'free' that we all received last year, but feel anything more than that again would lead to cuts in maintenance and would be a mistake.
