Temporary or permanent for the Aire & Calder Navigation?

THE Aire & Calder Navigation is to be dewatered to allow work to take place on its breach.

Canal & River Trust tell that this will allow a 'permanent solution to be constructed'.  The towpath, that was washed away, is also closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

However it was previously claimed that pumping out the water will enable it to 'commence on a temporary repair' to enable the navigation into Goole Docks to be reopened for its commercial shipping.

The trust acknowledges that it is difficult to be precise as to how long a permanent repair will take as this very much depends on what damage is discovered once the area is pumped dry.
