Failed lock gate closes Staffs & Worcs

A LOCK gate failure has closed the Staffs & Worcs Canal at Penkridge.

Over the week-end Filance Lock (37) failed when its top gate came out of its holder so then being unworkable, Keith Gudgin reports.

Be refitted

The gate will be refitted, but it is not known as to what, if any, provision is being made to prevent this occurring again.

In the past there have been instances of lock gates being so refitted then failing again, until the defective part was replaced.
