Too narrow for cycling and pedestrians

HOW CaRT can promote cycling on narrow canals with single file towpaths shows me they never visit their own waterways, writes Howard Clarke.
The Aylesbury and Wendover Arms near here have very narrow towpaths.
Have to get into hedge
Pedestrians have to get in the hedge to let them pass. Meeting Lycra under a bridge is going to end in tears.
Are towpaths footpaths or bridleways? I suppose since they were originally built for horses they could be regarded as bridleways although OS maps show most as footpaths.
