Rochdale Canal remains closed

THE Rochdale Canal at Punchbowl Bridge (43) is to remain closed to navigation.

Canal & River Trust engineers have confirmed the underside of the bridge is unstable, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not owned by the Trust

But it has been discovered the bridge is not owned by the Trust so it will remain closed until the local authority decide to undertake a repair.

Navigation therefore between Locks 36 and Lock 45 will remain closed until the bridge is repaired.  There is of course no intimation when this will take place.
