Too much silt in the Severn
Published: Wednesday, 19 August 2020
THE build-up of silt in the Severn is causing deep draughted boats to get grounded.
Downstream of Holt Lock, between Stourport and Worcester, the build-up of silt is causing boats to ground as they approach the lock entrance, Keith Gudgin reports.
Around mooring pontoon
The silt is piled-up around the mooring pontoon and the entrance to the lock itself and is causing problems particularly to deep draughted narrowboats.
In view of this Canal & River Trust is advising boaters to take care and keep speed to a minimum so that their boats will not be completely grounded.
Though it is told a survey is being arranged, there is no intimation of any dredging taking place.
