Bridge works closes Thames for two week-ends

WORK on widening the M4 motorway bridge over the Thames will close it for navigation for the next two week-ends.

The bridge is over the reach between Boveney and Bray locks with the work needed to turn the motorway into a 'smart' motorway adding a further lane in each direction.

Prefabricated sections

This includes installing three prefabricated sections, weighing nearly 300 tonnes, so they can be installed while keeping the time that the road need to be closed to a minimum.  These will be lifted into position over the two week-ends.

This is particularly hard for the week-end river boaters who have only recently been allowed to use the river after the lockdown.
