Leicester Section landslip worse than first thought

THE landslip caused by the recent storms on the Leicester Section is worse than first thought.

This means that the navigation will be closed between Debdale Wharf Bridge (65) and Binleys Bridge (67) longer that first expected, Keith Gudgin reports.

Hope for 9th April opening

It is at present not possible to give an exact time that the waterway will be cleared of the vast amount of soil and debris that washed into the water, but the latest date that Canal & river Trust is aiming to have the pound open is Thursday 9th April.

It was on the 4th March when the landslip was first investigated, but it was not then realised how much the land had washed into the waterway.
