Two drownings in Trent & Mersey at Swarkestone

FOLLOWING on the news that the body of Mohammed Ishtyaq was pulled from the Trent & Mersey Canal near Swarkestone comes news of a woman also drowned in the canal.

The man's body was discovered on Wednesday 4th March, and now DerbyshireLive report another drowning in the Trent & Mersey Canal at Swarkestone, two days later.

It tells that the police were called at 1.40pm on Friday, 6th March to reports that a woman had been seen in the Trent & Mersey Canal, off Swarkestone Road.

Five police cars were at the scene, alongside crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service.  A spokesman told she was pronounced dead at the scene.
