FURTHER flooding of the Soar has prevented the removal of the narrowboat obstructing the bridge at Barrow-on-Soar.

A boater  woke up to his narrowboat crashing into a Soar bridge after being torn from its mornings.

The owner was asleep when he was suddenly woken in the night by his boat crashing into the bridge, needing the fire brigade people to lower a ladder to undertake a rescue.

This occurred in the flood with the boat jammed up against the bridge at Barrow-on-Soar, but the flood waters then receded leaving the narrowboat high and dry at County Bridge (30) until River Canal Rescue can attend and remove it.

Further flood

But a further flood has prevented the removal of the boat as it would not be safe in such adverse conditions, but it is hoped it can be cleared away from the bridge by the end of the week should the waters recede.

We offer our sincere apologies to Simon Limb for the distress it caused by our original mix-up with this article, where we stated he had taken the boat out in the flood, as he had not, being in fact asleep in the boat it coming adrift as its moorings gave way.
