New railway station will brighten up canal corridor

IT IS not often we advocate new canal-side building, but one proposed in Birmingham would certainly brighten up one rather unexciting stretch, as Roger Fox relates.

NewBirminghamStationThe scheme for a new railway station to serve the university by the rather dreary Worcester & Birmingham Canal in the city will certainly brighten it up if the plans are anything to go by.

Replace the old rail stop

The new station will replace the 1970s rail stop, and should be completed in time for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with the university hosting hockey and squash events.

The plans include a new pedestrian bridge over the canal, with the advantage of a long stretch of moorings for boaters to visit the shops that will be included in the development.
