THE boater who threatened to blow up his narrowboat in Castleford has been taken into custody.

Armed police stormed the boat and took the man off after a 36 hours stand-off at the flood lock on the Aire & Calder in Castleford.

Great disruption

The threats by the man to blow up his boat caused great disruption to the town with the main road over the bridge closed and people evacuated from the area.

The police, fire and ambulance services had all been on site since the first threats were shouted, but the stand-off was brought to a close after the police managed to eventually get entrance to the narrowboat.
