Lock 'showing signs of severe deterioration'

THOUGH the Canal & River Trust team was on site at Rufford Branch Lock 2 to fit the new bracket, they were unable to accomplish the repair.

After removing the rotten bracket it was found that other components are showing signs of severe deterioration, Keith Gudgin reports.

Temporary repair

A temporary repair was made to allow navigation today (Friday) with the pound filled from noon to allow boats to proceed, then the lock was chained-up.

It will then be decided what action to take as to remedy the situation.
