Volunteer group disbands

A VOLUNTEER group who have been operating the historic narrowboat, Barnet, have decided to disband with the boat to be sold because Canal & River Trust (CaRT) have failed to find sufficient work writes Allan Richards.

I FIND it amazing that a boat that has sunk in a lock (Drunk hirers sank boat) has been left to block navigation for so long, ten days and counting, particularly so when it could be putting boaters waiting on a flooding river at risk, writes Pam Pickett.

David: A day out at Napton

I SPENT Saturday morning, in the rain, touring CaRT's open day at Napton Locks. It has two jobs on there, replacing the top gate and the bottom cill of the bottom lock and fixing the major problem which arose at lock 10 back in the Spring.

Email: Safe towpaths

I am afraid I do not agree with you correspondents who are concerned by what they call the unsafe towpaths, as in 13 years of boating the only problem on the towpaths that we have had was happy drunks at the Three Soulbury locks.

Email: Another kind of attack

As a rather well built fella, I'm not too worried about being attacked on the towpaths, though I can well understand the lady who wrote now being so in built-up areas after the vicious attack on the woman on the towpath at the top of Farmer's Bridge Flight in Birmingham, especially as she had a child with her.
